Small habits that double the wear time of your press-on nails — from prep to daily routine to bedtime.

If your press-ons keep popping off in three days, the problem is almost always prep — not the nails themselves. The adhesive is fighting against natural oils, moisture, and the curve of your nail. Win those three battles and a well-applied set comfortably hits 10 to 14 days. Here's what actually moves the needle, based on what we see clients get wrong most often.
Skip moisturiser, cuticle oil, and hand cream for at least an hour before applying. Even invisible residue blocks the glue from bonding. Wash your hands with regular soap (not the moisturising kind), then wipe each nail with an alcohol prep pad or 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. The nail surface should feel slightly dry and matte before you start — not glossy. This single step is the biggest determinant of wear time.
Push back cuticles and lightly buff the nail surface. The shine you're sanding away is a smooth layer the glue can't grip onto. A few gentle swipes with a 240-grit buffer is enough — you're not trying to thin the nail, just dull the surface. Wipe again with alcohol after buffing to clear the dust, then move quickly to application before your nails pick up oil again.
Use nail glue, not adhesive tabs, if you want maximum wear. Apply a thin layer of glue to both the natural nail and the press-on. Place the press-on at the cuticle line first, then press down towards the tip while squeezing the sides. Hold firm for 20 seconds per nail. The most common mistake is rushing this step — short hold time means weak bonds and early lifting.
Daily habits matter more than people think. Wear gloves for dishwashing, scrubbing, and hair washing — hot soapy water dissolves glue faster than almost anything else. Don't use your nails as tools to open cans, scratch labels, or pry stickers. Reapply a tiny drop of glue at the first sign of lifting at the edge, rather than waiting for the whole nail to come off. With these habits, even a 2-week set is realistic in Singapore humidity.
