Nano Brows vs Microblading: Which Is Right for You?

A clear comparison of the two most popular semi-permanent brow techniques to help you choose the best option for your skin type.

Both nano brows and microblading create natural-looking, hair-like strokes — but they use very different tools and techniques. Understanding the difference can help you choose the method that will work best with your skin type and lifestyle.

Microblading uses a handheld tool with tiny blades to create fine incisions in the skin, depositing pigment into each stroke. The result is beautiful, crisp hair strokes. However, microblading works best on normal to dry skin types. On oily skin, the strokes tend to blur and fade faster, sometimes losing their definition within 6–12 months.

Nano brows use a digital machine with a single ultra-fine needle — thinner than a human hair. The needle deposits pigment into the skin with precise, controlled movements. Because the needle punctures are smaller and more consistent than blade cuts, nano brows tend to heal crisper and last longer, typically 18–24 months.

The biggest advantage of nano brows is versatility. They work beautifully on all skin types, including oily and combination skin. The technique causes less trauma to the skin, which means less bleeding during the procedure, faster healing, and better pigment retention over time.

Pain levels are similar for both — numbing cream is applied beforehand, and most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching. Price-wise, nano brows are typically slightly higher due to the advanced equipment, but many clients feel the longer-lasting results make it worthwhile.
